Print from WPS: margins, booklets, labels, and why page 1 is blank

Print is where layout meets a physical machine that does not care about your theme. Preview is not optional. Paper size lies are how you waste a ream.

Always PDF-preview first

Export PDF, open it, then print from the viewer if WPS print is flaky. You have isolated driver vs document. Check: last page blank (section break), headers in the printable area, tables split across pages with no header repeat.

Booklets

Booklet printing reorders pages into signatures. If WPS or the driver offers booklet, test 8 pages on cheap paper and fold. If it does not, export PDF and use a booklet printer (many campus copiers have the mode). Do not mentally shuffle 40 pages at 07:00.

Duplex

Flip on long edge for portrait, short edge for calendar-style landscape. Get this wrong and page 2 is upside down. Print two sheets as a test.

Labels and letterhead

Set the exact stock size. Disable “fit to page.” Print on plain paper, overlay on the letterhead against a window, then commit. Toner on preprinted letterhead is a one-way trip.

Blank first page

Usually a leftover empty paragraph plus a section break, or “different first page” with an empty header pushing content. Show formatting marks. Delete the extra break. Do not keep hitting Backspace on the second page until the file weeps.

Color vs grayscale

Red negative numbers vanish on a grayscale staff copier. Use minus signs and, if you must, bold. Charts: patterns, not only color. Print a grayscale PDF preview (printer driver or a gray PDF) before you pay for 80 color pages.

Secure print / PIN

Campus printers hold jobs until a PIN. That is the printer, not WPS. If the job never arrives, you printed to a disconnected queue. Export PDF, print from the campus web queue if they have one.
